Gold subscribers of Microsoft's Xbox Live online gaming service have been waiting several months to get a truly great game for free. Many have complained that the Games with Gold initiative just hasn't been anywhere near the competition (Playstation Plus). PS+ has given away multiple newer, well-liked games while XBL members have received almost nothing but sub-par arcade games.

Microsoft has sprinkled a few good games in the mix in the past (like Halo 3) but they've all been 4 to 6 year old games whereas Playstation Plus members have received brand new titles. In February Microsoft is upping the ante a bit. The first game that players can download for free this month is Dead Island, a highly praised zombie game that was first available in 2012.

Starting today and running through either February 15th or early February 16th gamers that have a gold level membership with Xbox Live can download Dead Island for a whopping $0.00. The file size is about 3.3 gb.
